February has been an exciting month for Korean drama fans as well as 2021. This month we saw the grand final of some well beloved dramas such as “True Beauty” and “Mr. Queen” and we finally got the first episodes of highly-anticipated shows like “River Where the Moon Rises” and “The Penthouse 2.”

“True Beauty” is a high school romantic comedy about Lim Ju Gyeong (Moon Ga Young), who zealously uses makeup to hide her bare face and combat her insecurities about her looks.

After she meets Lee Su Ho (ASTRO‘s Cha Eun Woo), a popular student who has his own emotional wounds, they share each other’s secrets and learn to heal through love. Completing the love triangle is Han Seo Jun (Hwang In Yeop), an untamable rebel with a surprisingly warm heart.

Mr. Queen

This boisterous historical fusion drama portrays what happens when a man from modern times gets his soul trapped in the body of a queen from the Joseon dynasty. 

Shin Hye Sun stars as Kim So Yong, the Joseon queen with the soul of Blue House chef Jang Bong Hwan trapped inside her. Her husband is King Cheoljong (Kim Jung Hyun), who appears to be a weak and ineffective king on the outside. However, Cheoljong is sharper than he appears and even harbors a few secrets.

River Where the Moon Rises

This drama is based on a classic folk tale about a man named “On Dal.” The drama will focus on Pyong-Gang (played by Kim So-Hyun) who is a princess in Goguryeo raised as a soldier. She dreams of being the king of Goguryeo.

“River Where the Moon Rises” retells the love story between the classic Goguryeo folktale characters Pyeonggang (Kim So Hyun) and On Dal (Ji Soo). Pyong-Gang is a princess in Goguryeo raised as a soldier. She dreams of being the king of Goguryeo. Pyeonggang doubles as the assassin Yeom Ga Jin and dreams of becoming the first female to lead Goguryeo.

On Dal is a gentle, pure-hearted man who gives his heart to Pyeonggang and even goes against his peace-loving principles in order to protect her. The drama follows Pyeonggang and On Dal’s pure romance and the princess’s epic journey towards power to restore the kingdom to its former glory.

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning

L.U.C.A.: The Beginning contains an acronym which stands for “last universal common ancestor” and the drama’s storyline is inspired by Charles Darwin’s proposition that all species of life descend from a common ancestor.

The storyline is about Ji-O (Kim Rae Won) is born with a special power and is being pursued by dark forces. Among Ji Oh’s pursuers is Lee Son (Kim Sung Oh), a former member of the special forces and another wielder of supernatural powers, as well as the secretive genetics and biotech project L.U.C.A

Goo-Reum ((Lee Da Hee) is a detective who teams up with Ji-O. Gu-reum (Lee Da-hee) is a detective whose parents disappeared when she was younger. As she tries to uncover the truth behind her parents’ disappearance, she comes across Ji-oh and her life starts to change.

The Penthouse 2

The hit drama has returned with its highly-anticipated second season. Set in a 100-floor luxury penthouse apartment called Hera Palace, the first season featured three women at the heart of the tale: the “queen” of the penthouse Shim Soo Ryeon (Lee Ji Ah), the “prima donna” Cheon Seo Jin (Kim So Yeon) who will stop at nothing to get what she wants, and Oh Yoon Hee (Eugene) who will do anything it takes to get into the world of high society.

“The Penthouse 2” will surprise viewers once more as it continues to tell the dramatic and intense story of the Hera Palace residents.
